Check out the Magazine Gallery for the UK magazine
additions.
There are a whole bunch of “Prototype Parade”
plans from “Model Car”
magazine up there now, and I will be adding
more on at least a weekly basis, until all I have are posted.
There is now a “Latest Update” link on the
main web page, where you can
take a quick look to see when I added things.
Note that the Table of Contents page for each
of the UK magazines is available.
If there is a set of plans you just can’t
wait for, or an article you’ve gotta see, let me know,
I’ll put it in the scanning pile, and try
to get to it as soon as I can….
A “New-to-Me” web site that may be of interest
to you old time race fans is the
Turbo’s Race Photos site www.mlodeent.com
They have shots of 60’s-90’s Can-Am, TransAm,
Stock Cars & Drag Racing in California.
Reasonably priced, too! Tell them you saw
it on VSRN-Online!
Thanks to Todd Brace and Roger Schmitt, there
are some new pictures added to the
Strombecker Track and 3-Lane Track articles.
Next issue will have some Vintage Slots to
look at.
Look for it around the 1st of July

To The Editor
Hi Greg!
Wish I knew you were doing an article
on Strombecker 3 lane.
Attached is a pic of my layout. About
55' in length.
I have a bit more than that much again in
boxes waiting for a larger house.
I'll stick my neck out and say I may have
the most Strombecker 3 lane track.
It has shallow slots like Scalextric, and
the standard 3.5" lane spacing.
The track connections are horrible and are
constantly having problems.
I'd say probably 60% or more of my layout
has jumper wires underneath
going from section to section.
Interestingly, the straight's are 14" rather
than the 12" of Strom's 2 lane track.
This is an active layout used in our club's
racing series.
Has an SRT race management system, and obviously
I've defiled it
by painting the much needed for racing color
coded lane stripes.
Not to worry...it's water based and can come
off.

(ED NOTE: WOW !!!!! I think you win
the 3-Lane track contest!
Just out of curiosity, is the middle lane
the best to drive?
Anybody have a bigger Strombecker 3-Lane layout?
Thanks for sending the pictures, Todd!)

Greg ...
Hope you are doing well . I have a question
that I hope you can help with .
I am trying to identify a 1/24 scale vac formed
body , it’s a factory painted
red Mc Laren Elva ( I think it's the Mk 2
) , The wheel arches and mounting
screw holes are factory die-cut , and it fits
perfectly on the Monogram Snake / Vampire
style aluminum S/W chassis . It's painted
red with a silver overcoat like the
Snake and Vampire , but has the same minimal
level of detail as the early
Monogram 2 vacuum body kits with the brass
chassis .
Can you help me identify it and maybe help
find an interior insert with the spare tire
Hope to hear from you ... Gary V.
(ED NOTE: According to Philippe deLespinay’s
book “Vintage Slot Cars”,
this version of the McLaren-Elva was released
as
both a kit and an RTR in 1967,
the final 2 slot cars released by Monogram.
Yep, it had the Snake style aluminum chassis.
The interior was made from gray styrene.
Cooper wheel inserts were used,
and the very last cars had Twinn-K silicone
tires as a bonus. Philippe says that very few
of these kits were produced and are some
of the rarest slot cars today.
The RTR is a little more common, but still
tough to find! )

Hello-
I am looking to purchase 1/24th scale LaCucaracha
decals and rear wheels. Do you know anyone
that has these items for sale?
Joe G.
(ED NOTE: Philippe at Electric Dreams has
repro stickers for the 1/24 Cuc:

I'm assuming you're trying to restore a
Cuc...NOS rear wheel / tire sets
are quite difficult to find. I got some
from Bob's Collector's Shop many years ago.
If you have the original wheels, you can
probably find some old light gray donuts
from a vintage dealer, and redo them that
way. You might also check with your local dealer
to see if REH has some "fresh" gray donuts.
If you don't have a local dealer you can
work with on that, try

What’s
New?
Got an e-mail from John Robinson, owner of
MRRC, located in the Jersey Islands in the
English Channel.. John is an old VSRN’er,
and actually stopped by to see me here in River City,
many years ago. He sends these photos of their
new 427 Cobra SC, now with the correct body:
(Click Photos for larger view)
In addition, here’s a picture of their soon
to be released Carroll Shelby
Limited Edition Cobra, which is currently
only 95% complete.
Look great to me – check them out for yourself!

New from MG Vanquish is the McLaren M8D that
Dennis Hulme
used to capture the 1970 Can-Am Championship:
Also from MG Vanquish is the 1971 Can-Am Shadow
MkII,
which was driven by Jackie Oliver:
Both the McLaren & Shadow are also out
in other paint schemes,
with additional versions coming over the rest
of this year.
A 1970 McLaren M8E, which was the “customer”
model will also
be released in the near future.

I'm not an avid Hot Wheels collector, but
from time to time, they come out with
something of reasonable interest to the vintage
slot buff. This time it's a Chaparral 2D,
in it's Sebring #7 markings. It's #9 of 42
of the 2003 First Editions line, and makes a nice
companion to the Chap 2 roadster they came
out with a year or so ago.
Hope they continue to add Chaparrals to the
line!
