Hi Gang - Thanks for the feedback and support, since we “relaunched” the web site last month.
Nobody got the answer to the “Slot Date” challenge from VSRN #109!
Here’s the answer from Don Siegel:
“it was in the August 65 issue of Auto Topics,
with Jimmy Clark in an Indy Lotus on the cover.
Part of a couple of articles on the slot racing
craze, including the 65 World Model Car Racing
Championship, sponsored by American Model
Car Raceways. It was published by Floyd Clymer,
who had several car titles around that time...”
Thanks Don! I seem to remember that there were
a series of Indy Yearbooks put out by Clymer,
but I've never heard of “Auto Topics”.
Next time we’ll add the UK magazine “Model
Cars” to the Magazine Gallery, and post a bunch
of the “Prototype Parade” 3-views that MC
was famous for…Look for it around the 1st of June….
As always, your comments and suggestions are
welcome - I do appreciate the feedback!

VSRN:
Subject: Researching Ford P68 and P69 F3L
GT Sport Prototype
Apparently "Model Cars" magazine published
plans for the Ford 3L Prototype (ref. #322)
and I was wondering if you could assist
me in tracking this down, either by obtaining the issue
itself and/or getting a hi-quality scan
of said plan. Any assistance you could provide would be
greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Rick Yates
(ED NOTE: When it comes to plans from Model
Cars,
I first think of long time VSRN’er Russell
Sheldon.
So I asked him for help….)
Dear Greg,
I wish to apologise most profusely for
not getting
back to you any sooner. Back in November
… I encountered some serious health problems …
I'm pleased to say that I am now well on
my way to a
full recovery and I am now back at work…
Regrettably, I missed this year's Marconi Charity proxy race
as a result, but at least I'm now prepared
well in advance for this year's race!
I do have plans and quite a bit of technical
info of both the P68 and P69. Unfortunately, the line drawings
are too light to scan clearly on my cheap
equipment, but I have photocopied them and will send them to you via airmail.
The Ford P68 actually
raced this past January at the Zwartkops Historic Races in South Africa!
More
Pictures in the Photo Gallery.
With kind regards,
Russell
(ED NOTE: Wow! I wasn’t really familiar with
this car, prior to this.
Does this look like a “Low & Wide” slot
car or what ????
I’ve passed the information along to Rick,
but have also started a Search Page
on VSRNonline.com for 3-View
Plans from Model Cars Magazine.
My stash of Model Car issues is limited, so
if anyone can help out, it will be appreciated! )

Hi Greg –
Congrats and good luck on the new website!
I just wanted to pass along a tidbit
of info about a Classic motor I bought.
It is a mint in box CM 550.
This is the cylindrical motor with metal
endbell with Classic cast into it.
It came in a two tone green box.
I read your informative and concise Classic Story
article years ago and thought I would pass
this info along to you.
Another interesting motor I have is another
type of apparent Classic 16D size prototype
motor in Classic orange and a mint in box
Classic 1 volt factory rewind/balanced/polished motor!

The Monogram 1/32 Cobra Daytona Coupe slot
cars I mentioned last time,
are now promised by the end of Summer, with
the Greenwood "Batmobile" Corvettes in the fall,
and the previously unannounced 3rd series
of the Corvette Grand Sports will follow in “winter” 2003.
See Model Car Racing #9, p57 for a full color
ad.
I just got one of the fabulous 1971 L&M
Lola T-260 Can-Am cars put out by MG Vanquish,
from Professor Motor. Much has been written
on the larger than 1/32nd scale, (it’s actually 1/28th to 1/29th scale).
To me, it doesn’t matter at all – it’s that
good!
Having seen Jackie Stewart drive the original
beast(sans front wing), I just had to have one.!
The next release from MG Vanquish is the 1970
Team McLaren M8D driven to that year’s
Can-Am Championship by Dennis Hulme.
There’s another I’ve got to have!!!!
Tell ‘em you saw in at VSRN Online!
