Vintage Slot Racing Newsletter

The History of VSRN

One hundred issues of the Vintage Slot Racing Newsletter were published from September 1987 to March 1998.

VSRN was dedicated to the preserving the history of 1/32 and 1/24 slot car racing, from its start in the late 50’s, through the 60’s boom period. It also enabled enthusiasts get to know others who shared their passion for slot racing, and to find sources for vintage and current production cars and parts.

Over the years, we were fortunate enough to get to contact people who were key players in the industry, and compile detailed stories that never before had been made public. The late Jose Rodriguez, Jr. gave us the inside story of Atlas. Lloyd Asbury described starting Lancer and taking it to its peak. Philippe deLespinay told of his experiences as a designer for both Dynamic and Cox.

With the help of many of our readers, we were also able to tell the Strombecker and Classic stories, and compile an extensive motor article. How-to articles and Classified Ads were also popular with our readers. In addition, the VSRN Library accumulated hundreds ofinstruction sheets for both US and Foreign slot cars, and offered a copy service.

It was an exciting 10 years of publication, but as VSRN grew, the work required to prepare, publish and mail, eventually became overwhelming, so we had to quit.

Now, after a 3 year break, we hope to establish an informal on-line presence to complement some of the excellent Web Sites that are already out there.
