Revised 12/12/04
For those of you who have been wondering what
I've been doing
instead of working on the website, here's
the scoop:
I've been concerned for quite a while that
the printed slot car material
from the 60's is going to disappear, either
in the trash, or by crumbling to dust.
Some of my older magazines and catalogs are
quite fragile,
and are not going to last another 40 years
for sure.
So I've been scanning magazines to CD, not
only to save them for posterity,
but to make them available to people who don't
have access to them now.
I've come a long way from my first efforts,
in terms of the amount of time
I have to spend to scan and save a magazine
into a user friendly format.
But even with the improvements, it still takes
a lot of time,
so all of this isn't going to happen overnight.
Nevertheless, I have made some progress. Here's
what's complete as of the moment:
-
NEW >>>>> Car
Model Vol 1&2
-
Model Car & Track Vol 1&2
-
Model Car & Track Vol 3
-
Model Car & Track Vol 4&5
-
Model Car & Racing (60's version,
NOT the current magazine!)
-
NEW >>>>>
Model Roads & Racing + Miniature Auto World (from England)
-
Miniature Auto (also from England)
-
Auto World Catalogs (1961, 1962,
1963, 1966&1/2)
-
Magazine Cover Gallery (Like on
the web site, but higher resolution), with a bonus Library CD with instruction
sheets.
Most of the above CD's are available from
www.professormotor.com.
The easiest way to find them is to go to Prof
Motor's site, and do a search on VSRN.
This set isn't quite complete yet, but we are
working on it....:
-
"Model Maker & Model Cars" (from
England)
If you need any of these in a hurry, please contact
me directly
and we'll work out the details of how you
can get a CD.
Typically, what is done is to have you order
one of the CD's
listed on the Prof Motor site and then add
a note
detailing what it is you want, and email me
the note also.
These are in the works, but not yet complete:
-
The rest of Car Model
-
3 View Plans CD
-
Model Cars (England)
On The "To-Do" List:
-
"Special" Issues of US Magazines:
(Annuals, Car Model Tech Journal, etc)
-
Model Car Science
-
Lots more Instruction Sheets for
the Library CD
-
More AutoWorld Catalogs
-
Scalextric Catalogs
-
Model Maker (UK)
By the way, this is NOT a huge money making proposition!
I've spent countless (although my wife would
probably be
glad to tell you exactly how many) hours,
and a lot of money
on eBay and at shows buying magazines to try
to complete various collections.
And frankly, to date, not that many people
have been interested...
Last, but certainly not least, there are a
number of people
who have helped me tremendously, in terms
of offering the
loan of magazines from their collections,
and in some cases,
actually scanning the material for me.
At the risk of forgetting someone, I'll try
to list everyone here:
-
Don Siegal
-
Ben Jones
-
Russell Sheldon
-
Mike Sells
-
Mike Thomson
-
Dave Dembeck
-
Alan Upritchard
Thanks Guys!!!!!
