UK Magazines Revisited
By Ye Olde Editor

Since we first posted the UK Cover Gallery in issue  #110, several people have come to my rescue, and offered to help fill in the gaps.

And have we ever filled in those holes!
Miniature Auto is now complete, and much has been added to Model Cars, Model Roads & Racing, and Model Maker.

In addition, my understanding of the start / stop dates of some of the early magazines has improved greatly! For instance, in the previous article, I wondered about Miniature Auto.
It is now clear that there are no issues of Miniature Auto from V1N1 to V2N4; these were
the Miniature Autoworld issues, and Miniature Auto picked up at V2N5 and ending with V4N9,
when it merged into Model Cars.

We also now know that the first issue of “Model Maker and Model Cars” magazine was in February 1961.

Also, Model Maker was started in 1951, when Model Mechanic Magazine and the original series of Model Cars Magazine were combined.

Hope that you enjoy the Cover Galleries as much as I do!

Prototype Parade Of 3 View Plans
By Ye Olde Editor

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in Automotive 3 View Plans, judging by the e-mail that comes in.

I’m happy to announce that all of the Prototype Parade Plans from Model Cars (UK) magazine,
From 1964 to 1972 are now available on the website.

In addition, we are trying to obtain copies of the
earlier Prototype Parade plans numbered 1 – 140.  So far, we have about 30 of those, and those are now posted also.

Again, if you have any of the missing plans, we’d appreciate your help in trying to get those
added to the list.

Car Model & Scale Modeler 3 View Plans
By Ye Olde Editor

Thanks to Dave Dembeck, we now have some
of the 3 View Plans from Car Model Magzine
available online. So far we have:

Chaparral 2C
Chaparral 2E
Chaparral 2F
McLaren MkII
Mercedes 300 SLR

Car Model 3 View Plans

Dave is as big a Chaparral fan as I am, so he also dug up a Chaparral 2H plan from the British Magazine Scale Modeler.
Scale Modeler 3 View Plans

I’ll be getting back to scanning Car Model shortly, and I’ll add them to the site as I get to them.

Milestones in Electric Car Racing

Here's an interesting article from the last issue of "Model Maker & Model Cars" magazine in March 1963.
In April 1964, "Model Maker & Model Cars" became just "Model Cars".

Give it a read.....

Letters To The Editor
Greg;

Found your website by mistake, but I can shed some light from the past.

In 1968 or 1969 I worked in the basement for Dyna-Rewind,
Ted Lech , making those little motors and sore fingers.
If you could locate a Jerry Merlock he could fill in all the blanks.

The tracks we raced at were;
1. The Groove,Royal Oak
2. White Circle, St. Clair {they had a vac machine for
bodies there, early Shinoda's were cast there, and GM had a vac and some were cast there also.
3. Pontiac Model Raceway, Pontiac
4. Tiny Tims on Woodward, but not much happened there.

I still have a Shinoda with Dyna Rewind, from the
past. I had about 50 left over bodies, but discarded
them many years ago around 1975, slot cars were all
but gone.

Things About Thingies page 36,the article says " The extra car in the picture is Eldon’s dirty ole
record breaker at Pontiac Model Raceway 200 ft, figure 8 track".
Well that’s my car and my first name is Eldon, I still remember that day at the Groove when the photos were taken.
The photo  on page 33 shows a Ford "J" car with the number 1, that belonged to Jim Peterson from the Pontiac Track.

Sure do miss the slot car past, wish it would come
back,any questions please e-mail nutzipper51@yahoo.com
P.S. a "nutzipper", is a southern name for a
"squirrel"
  Enjoyed your website, Gene Adams

(ED NOTE: Gene- Thanks for the info - now we finally know where the bodies were made!
I kinda doubt that you could run down to your local General Motors dealership & buy some Shinoda bodies,
so I'm guessing that the slot body making was a "back door" operation.
Not that it has ever happened at any other company....<grin>)
