OldRatFinkster's 1962 Posters by
Ed "BIG DADDY" Roth

Here's the story:

I was viewing your website today and found the section with the Ed Roth Rat Fink Model Posters.
I clicked on the Car Model Vol.1 No.1 and I saw the three pictures I've had since 1962!!!
I have the three framed, plus the Mothers Worry Poster. My dad purchased them in 1962,
the first year Roth offered them, I was 9 years old. In the ad it shows sweatshirts, you could also
purchase tee shirts and the prints on paper, they were .75 cents.

My dad framed and then hung them on my bedroom wall and there they sat for many years.
About 15 years ago I asked my mom about them and she said they were still hanging up!
I went over and RESCUED them and I've had them tucked away ever since. Needless to say,
the pictures had a great influence on me and my life, I've spent most of my life involved in the
automotive industry/hobby.

In 1992 I heard Ed Roth was going to make an appearance at the Oakland Roadster Show,
a show I attended first with my dad at an early age and every year since then until it moved away
from Oakland. (The last one I attended was the Oakland Roadster Show at the San Fransisco Cow
Palace, the 50th show!!!)

So I packed up the pictures and took them to the show. I met Ed Roth at the show and told him about
the pictures. I asked him if he'd sign them and he said "sure, bring them in." BOY, was I PUMPED!
The pictures were from 1962 and 30 years later, 1992 and THE MAN was signing my pictures. Well,
I brought them in, unwrapped them and laid them out. He picked up one of the pictures, looked it over
real good, and then he stated "I THINK THESE ARE DRAWINGS THAT WERE STOLEN FROM A
FRIEND'S ART COLLECTION!!!! Well, I just about SHIT MY PANTS!!! I told him how my dad
had purchased them many years ago and framed them, I've had them all these years, and look at the
Copyright stamp "62"!! He still didn't beleive me, he motioned to one of his sons who happened to
pick up one of the pictures and looked it over carefully, and then his son told him that
"Yes, they're prints from 1962!!! After that he proceeded to sign and date each one on the back,
I packed them up and GLADFULLY placed them in the car! I've had them tucked away and when
I saw your website I thought I'd take a few pictures and share them with you. I thought FOR SURE
that night, I was going to lose my pictures! Enjoy the photographs!
