Ed "BIG DADDY" Roth

I've been a huge fan of "Big Daddy Roth" ever since I first became aware of him
through Car Model Magazine in 1962.

In 1999, much to my amazement, I finally got to meet him in person, at a car show in Lockport, NY. He was kind of low key (OK, it was early in the morning!), but frequently, something would get his attention, and he'd get that sparkle in his eye that others have written about, and his great sense of humor would sneak out.
This picture was a second try. I asked if he minded if I took a picture, and he said "Sure" and posed. Of course, the flash didn't go off, so he said "Try Again", and did the pose all over again.....

As an official Rat Finks Of America member, I had brought along my Certificate, as an ice-breaker. He said "Let me see that". he studied it for a minute, and said "You're OK - that's one I did myself before I sold the business to Mooneyes"

RF in Lotus Slot Kit Big Daddy went nuts when I brought out my mint-in-the-box Revell "Rat Fink In Lotus" slot car kit for him to autograph! He said "I haven't seen one of these in a million years! It must be worth a grand! Where'd you get it?"
I told him that I'd had it a long time, didn't think it was worth quite that much, and that it wasn't for sale at any price!
